Projects

Something Blue Magazine

reating this fictional magazine was my favorite project to complete since I have a great interest in creating the design and layout of magazines. First, I thought about the topic that I wanted my magazine to be about as well as the demographic that the magazine would target which helped to narrow the design choices I was going to make for the magazine. Afterwards I compiled photos from a variety of websites that would fit the target audience. Then I brainstormed and wrote the articles that I wanted to feature in the magazine. Next it was time to make my cover page which started the design process of deciding on the colors, font, and overall aesthetic that I was going to use. From there, I created the pages in the magazine and used reoccurring icons to create a cohesive look. At this phase, I also created two ads for the inside of the magazine, and one for the back cover that would appeal to the target audience. My final step was to make any edits to the magazine that I deemed necessary to keep a consistent look throughout. I really liked getting to see each step of the process and working through each design phase myself.See More

Typographic Designers

The focus of this project was to learn about iconic typographic designers as well as create compositions utilizing type to form the booklet. I also focused on creating a nice hierarchy for each page. I wanted the design to be cohesive so I used a monochromatic design for each typographer’s page.See More

Typographic Structures

This project helped me gain a better understanding of typography, and how to use it as a design element so that it looks like an intentional part of the composition. We worked through eight phases of typographic design that increased with difficulty by adding other elements like line, shape, multiple weights and sizes of fonts, and images. Adding complexity to the compositions slowly helped to learn the art of adding type to design compositions. Here, I have compiled some of my favorite compositions from all eight phases of the project.See More
