Products-API Microservice

The goal of this project was to work with an inherited legacy front-end e-commerce web portal, and build out a specific API micro-service to be used by the front-end client. The micro-service was to be a RESTful API that would need to handle web-scale traffic and was containerized using Docker and deployed to an Amazon EC2 instance. After employing optimization strategies such as SQL query optimizations, indexing, caching, and load balancing, I was able to crush the minimum requirements of 100 requests/second and sucessfully scale my service to handle 200-750 requests/second at less than 2000ms of latency and a less than 1% error rate.See More

TwilioMay 2022 - Nov 2022 • 7 mosAt Twilio, I was selected as one of 8 software engineers out of 3,000+ applicants to be accepted into a rigorous 6 month apprenticeship program called Hatch. The Hatch program was designed for persons with non traditional educational, professional, and personal experience. Unfortunately due to the wider macro-economic climate, though I formally received an "Exceeds Expectations" designation during my time as an apprentice, I was not able to be retained. During my 6 month apprenticeship I: ► Worked on end-to-end feature development for the Twilio Console Support application that involved making API changes to handle all global support phone numbers, updating the UI to render a modal for those phone numbers, while concurrently working across several systems and a shared component library ► Facilitated release and subsequent testing of code changes through multiple realms in order to successfully deploy to production while coordinating with stakeholders to gather requirements and effectively communicating any delays or blockers to the team during team ceremonies ► Converted outdated piece of API from JavaScript to TypeScript following team best practices
