University of Rochester I did research at the Iqbal Lab at the University of Rochester Central Laboratories in the summer of 2022, under the Discover Grant. The purpose of the project was to obtain hmgDNA from bladder wash specimens and gain mastery in OGM and other cytogenomic techniques using Bionano’s Saphyr System and other kits provided. My job in this project was to be trained in Bionano DNA extraction and practice the extraction on blood or cell villi until the bladder wash samples arrived. Once the hmgDNA is obtained, we can run it through the Saphyr system and help in the detection of cancer-causing abnormalities in the genome.

NorthSide Learning CenterApr 2019 - Sep 2019 • 6 mos In my junior year, I offered my service to the North Side Learning Center (NSLC) in Syracuse and was offered the position of an English instructor. The NSLC aids adults and youths in literacy development and has been instrumental in teaching self-sufficiency and self-actualization to newcomers in the Syracuse community. For almost two years now, I have been teaching English to groups of newly arrived adult immigrants every Monday after school. My students – mostly mothers of young children – very quickly become breadwinners of their families.
