International Genetically Engineered Machines RochesterFeb 2020 - Jan 2021 • 1 yr-Designed and delegated six projects within a full team of 12 people with the purpose of facilitating a non-invasive method for the detection of Endometriosis -Supervised hardware team in lab space for proof of concept experiments and data analysis -Established relationships with other international genetically engineered machines teams - Project won Gold Medal, Best Diagnostic Project and the Inclusivity Award. Project was also nominated for Best Integrated Human Practices, Best Software Tool and Best Education - Based on the needs of endometriosis patients and low-resourced clinics, our team designed and built four different hardware pieces that aid a simple and convenient implementation of our non-invasive diagnosis for endometriosis: (1) A menstrual cup to collect sample menstrual effluent, modeled and then designed on Solidworks (2) A collapsable sterilizer to sanitize menstrual cups, designed on Solidworks and build prototype (3) An imaging station for lateral flow assay, made for gold nano-particles detection using building blocks and simple circuity (4) A DIY centrifuge, using recycled computer and RC cars parts built a fully functional centrifuge Learn more: https://2020.igem.org/Team:Rochester/Hardware
