Hello! I’m Joel, a UX designer and leader who has spent the last 20 years building innovative experiences by focusing on craft and influencing those around me. Currently I lead core experiences for internal tools at Amazon with an emphasis on AI, scalable frameworks, and design systems within the People Experience Technology organization. Alongside my UX/AI work, I’m curious about how innovation can make a difference in essential but overlooked industries; areas where technology has lagged but the impact can be huge. I’m always open to conversations about AI, design, and how technology can transform industries that quietly keep the world running.

Waterminds

I was hired to create a brand new IOT device monitoring and analysis interface with integrated alarm management. The aggressive timeline on the project required rapidly performing stakeholder interviews and alignment and performing competitive analysis and user research within a few weeks, before moving into concepting, wireframing, and review/iteration. Ultimately, an intuitive map-centric interface was designed, with panels that could be pulled into the map or expanded to a full view, which were also accessible from list views. This created a highly flexible interface to dive into to analyze as the user desired. A design system was also created to build a scalable, consistent experience.See More

Inn-Flow Redesign

I began working with Inn-Flow on a small project to update a few pages on their aging Hotel Management Platform. After establishing a working relationship, the company asked me for my perspective on a ground-up overhaul, with a modern architecture and design. I presented a few concepts, and the simple project grew into a several-year relationship where I created, launched, and maintained a complex, full-service hotel management platform. Countless alignment workshops, discussions, research exercises, and designs went into creating one of the fastest-growing hotel management platforms available. Inn-Flow Mobile

I was asked to create a brand new native iOS application to support key features of the Inn-Flow web platform I designed for a client. Specific features needed to be brought over, with an emphasis on simplicity, brand cohesion, and platform familiarity. I worked with the product and leadership teams to align on a roadmap of core features and extended the web design system into a native mobile system. The redesign was responsive, WordPress based and had an accompanying iOS application I also designed. - Lead the migration from a proprietary platform to an open source, future ready platform. - Provided all front-end code for new design, including building pattern library and utilizing object oriented methodologies to ensure consistency and extensibility as the company grew.
