Weiland Farms manages farmland assets for investors. While their core business is grain production, this marketing effort focuses on strategic diversification. By dedicating a portion of their acreage to alternative corn varieties, Weiland Farms aims to enhance profitability and explore new opportunities. The primary goal of this project was to assess the viability of entering niche markets for alternative types of corn and make recommendations as to which corn variety(s) to plant. The key area of focus includes, cropping differences from Yellow/Dent corn, geography of cropping areas, seed stock, markets and a description of end users, history of farmgate prices, and a thorough understanding of marketing channels including contracts and traders. The methodology used for this study included a comprehensive review of industry reports and data sources related to alternative corn crops. Additionally primary research methods included interviews with industry expert, processors, and buyers. When I partnered with Asset Based Lending (ABL), a hard money lender established by former hedge fund executives, they were processing just $200,000 in monthly loans with limited market presence. Recruited specifically by their Managing Director, I was tasked with developing their brand identity and creating a comprehensive marketing strategy to drive qualified leads to their underwriting team. I implemented an integrated approach that balanced digital initiatives (Google Ads, Bing Ads, Facebook campaigns, SEO optimization, and content marketing); email campaigns and traditional channels including strategic PR and industry events. Serving as their outsourced marketing department, I managed all aspects from website development to marketing automation systems for nurture campaigns. This comprehensive strategy delivered remarkable results over our three-year partnership, helping ABL expand from a regional player into eight states while growing their monthly loan volume to exceed $14 million—a 70x increase from our starting point.
