High proline content is usually a negative sign for growers, especially in barley for beer, as it creates unwanted “off-tastes.” Using a spectrophotometer, I took measurements of proline content in our lines of barley. With this information, we compared whether "irrigated" or "dry" lines affect proline content, how proline content differs in the different life stages of the barley, and if proline content changes from year-to-year. - Worked on project to create acid soil-resistant barley strands/method for testing for these strands. - Ran protein gels and scanned gels for analysis.
