Modernization of Process Delivery for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare

In 2015, I was hired to modernize process delivery for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW). When I was hired, DHW was using an old eManual system. It was unorganized, nearly impossible for staff to find information quickly, and took process engineers literally hours to publish updates, even updates as small as fixing a typo. I was tasked with devising a new way to deliver process to statewide staff. Parameters were that it needed to be within SharePoint, that staff could access any process within three clicks, and that it did not involve any coding for process engineers. In 2016, we introduced the wikiManual. It was a SharePoint-based eManual that utilized the Kaboodle plugin, which allowed process engineers to write in Word and then publish their Word documents to the wikiManual as web pages, thus negating any need to code to create web pages. I also organized an advanced search and button navigation system that allowed any process to be accessed within three clicks. The wikiManual was a huge success for many years, but using Word had limitations. More and more, leadership asked for interactive elements in the wikiManual. So, starting in 2023, I began researching a new modernization for process delivery. After researching hundreds of possibilities, I presented ScreenSteps to leadership, which is a standalone knowledge base software. Their methodology is a complete rethinking of process delivery. Over the next two years, I spearheaded the procurement and implementation of ScreenSteps, including acting as liaison between DHW and ScreenSteps, helping to build out multiple knowledge bases, and training process engineers on how to utilize the software. ScreenSteps has revolutionized how DHW handles process delivery and has vastly improved the efficiency and productivity of statewide staff.See More
