The Wisdom Panel Ancestry Update project revamped the company's dog DNA testing service to better serve millennial pet parents while advancing their mission to help everyone "pet parent like a pro" through data, technology, and compassion. The project addressed key user pain points, primarily the confusing "breed groups" categorization and perceived lack of accuracy compared to competitors. Users struggled with broad groupings, and the service's 12.5% minimum reporting threshold for breeds led to unfavorable comparisons with competitors like Embark and 23andMe. Major achievements included: Improved breed detection precision to 1% New two-tiered breed breakdown visualization Enhanced family tree display showing up to 8 breeds Mobile-first redesign, resulting in 40% increased engagement Comprehensive breed information pages with history, traits, and health data The updated interface features intuitive breed breakdowns, genetic inheritance visualization, and a breed carousel for easy navigation. Each breed page includes detailed statistics, history, traits, temperament, care tips, and health information. Results showed significant improvement in Net Promoter Scores: Essential plan: 50 to 78 Premium plan: 62 to 72 The mobile optimization was particularly crucial, responding to data showing approximately 70% of users accessing the service via mobile devices compared to 30% on desktop.
