Increased the Student Minimum Wage at ACU
During my final week of undergrad, alongside Hannah Maniscalo and Nathan Marshall, we collaborated to present comprehensive data and research to the VP of Operations at ACU, with the aim of advocating for an increase in the minimum wage for student workers on campus...and we were successful! The minimum wage is now on a 5 year plan to increase by $0.50 each year until it reaches the goal of $10.00 per hour. My internship experience in Guatemala has taught me a lot about myself, another culture, and how to navigate difficult situations. I am so grateful for the team of ACU students that have experienced this alongside me, and for the opportunities to grow outside my comfort zone. Coming here we had no idea what we would be doing or how to speak effective Spanish. Students International had never considered a way of income outside of fundraising until Covid-19 forced them to get creative. Our job, essentially, was helping them brainstorm new ways to impact the community they operate in while also providing jobs, revenue, and establishing what this internship we have completed will look like in the future. The main thing I have learned through this experience is how to be flexible, communicate clearly, and just how hard it is to start a new business in Guatemala. However, despite a few discouraging realities, we have compiled a presentation of how to get started selling the women's social work site's products both locally and in the United States.See MoreWork History
