Example of scaling paid media

I successfully scaled paid media for a financial risk company. We interviewed users to learn which competitors/alternatives they had used and why they disliked them. We used these learnings to write out a few logical arguments for why using the alternatives would create painful problems and how our features solved these issues. We tested various types of ads (carousels, videos, single images) with different targeting strategies (including scraped lists of advisors who used our competitor, broad match targeting, and lookalikes) with different messaging. A week-long test revealed the best performers: single-image ads targeting lookalikes and competitor users, with messaging focused on a competitor’s pricing changes and inaccurate risk methodology. Analyzing Hotjar data, we optimized the funnel by replacing the demo CTA with an audit offer showing how poor risk scoring could lead to SEC issues. After making some other funnel fixes, we increased volumes by expanding placements, targeting larger audiences (e.g., other bigger conferences), and hitting the same audiences with different value props. Hiring more salespeople allowed us to increase budgets and experiment with bidding strategies to maximize closed deals. Finally, we turned ad success into growth loops. For example, happy financial advisors introduced us to “study groups” where financial advisors would go to learn. We ran webinars for these groups which led to new customers. These new customers referred us to other groups, and so on. It was primarily the paid media campaigns we ran and the growth loops we implemented that led the company to hit 1 million dollars in ARR.See More
