Reinventing the Embr Wave for menopause

The Client: Embr Labs invented the Embr Wave, a wearable device that helps people feel warmer or cooler at the touch of a button. In 2021, Embr saw a unique opportunity to build their second generation device, the Wave 2, to target women in menopause, entering the FemTech market. The Challenge: Understand the challenges and behaviors of women in menopause and design a compelling digital tool to deliver physical relief from hot flashes and a greater sense of control during their menopause experience. The Approach: Fractional design leadership – two years of experience strategy, user research, and experience design – taking Embr from initial concept to first release. The Solution: An app to power a more discreet wearable, plus personalized features to find fast relief from hot flashes and meaningful patterns in their occurrence. Tracking pathogens across the globe

The Client: Throughout the pandemic, Concentric was a national leader in Covid testing programs, designed to keep American schools safe. As the pandemic waned, Ginkgo aspired to transform Concentric to meet biological threats on a global scale, creating Ginkgo Biosecurity. The Challenge: Define and deliver on a new vision, protecting the health of nations. Identify necessary digital touch points for a CDC pilot program, transforming existing software and designing new solutions as customer needs crystallized. The Approach: Two years of hands-on design leadership and user research, with a strong focus on data visualization and information architecture. The Solution: A three-pronged biosecurity surveillance platform: 1. a mobile interface for test participant registration 2. a tablet-based interface for clinicians to upload test sample data 3. a responsive dashboard for public health officials to monitor and analyze pathogen movement The Results: A successful CDC pilot that scaled to 14+ countries worldwide.
