Ashley Griffin
Marketing Manager | Background in Higher-Ed Admin. and News Media
I am a Marketing Manager with a strong background in website and social media content management, specializing in platforms like WordPress and Mailchimp. My career spans diverse sectors including higher education, news media, and community organizations, where I've consistently driven engagement and growth through innovative digital marketing strategies.
Most recently, I managed marketing and operations for The Beacon Newspapers, where I oversaw the content strategy for the company's website, social media channels, and email campaigns. By designing and implementing monthly digital marketing calendars and monitoring analytics, I helped increase our social media audience by 70%. I also contributed to the production of The Beacon's monthly newspapers, annual Resource Guides, and large-scale annual 50+ Expos, serving thousands of local seniors and 100+ exhibitors.
At Boston University, I coordinated web and social media content for the African American & Black Diaspora Studies Program. My efforts led to increased event attendance, student enrollment, and brand awareness, with notable success in promoting the Masters program to prospective graduate students. In July 2023, I was presented the Award for Outstanding Contributions to the African American & Black Diaspora Studies Program by the Program's Director, Dr. Louis Chude-Sokei.
My freelance role as Managing Editor for the Adult Music Student Forum involves editing and designing newsletters, managing digital communications, and leading a transition to cost-effective digital platforms. Additionally, my work with The Black Scholar and The Buzz magazine has honed my editorial and team management skills.
Beyond my professional roles, I volunteer with the Sherwood Community Chamber Choir, overseeing internal and external communications and managing paid marketing campaigns to promote concerts and youth choir registration.
Im also committed to continuous learning and have expanded my technical skills through online courses, including Harvards CS50x, CS50 Python, and CS50 SQL. My education from Boston University includes a B.S. in Journalism, a B.A. in Sociology, and a minor in African American Studies.
