TheMenimalist.comJan 2014 - May 2015 • 1 yr 5 mosMy first true entrepreneurial venture that went beyond simply creating my own job, I launched this E-Commerce Site as my first true business at the age of 15. I launched this new venture with a budget of $500 in personal savings from small gigs as a teenager. The goal of the venture was naturally to generate more income than the minimum wage jobs available to me as a teenager, but I was unafraid of failing, as I knew that I would emerge from the failure with a significantly stronger marketing skillset than when I started, which would help me in the future. Attempting to attract customers online, I had burned through $400 in the first few weeks since launch with a mere $40 in revenue to account for it. After this frustrating realization, I decided to switch my targeting strategy to focus on a ICP that I personally understood, people that work with mechanical tools. As my final attempt at generating a positive ROI before moving on from the venture, I selected a new product to drop-ship that was quite unique, a miniature wrench wrapped into a ring. The last $100 from the budget was quickly sent to a mechanic's meme page I discovered on Instagram, and in return, the owner would feature a post I created for 24 hours as an advertisement. Within 2 hours of the posting, my computer was buzzing with $1,000 in new orders! The Menimalist provided useful men's outdoors tools, trinkets, and personal accessories. After this discovery, I spent the most of my efforts generating new customers through the use of Facebook ads and Instagram promotional posts, as I knew that recurring revenue from remarketing to existing customers would be my easiest path to sustainable growth. -Top 5% by traffic of stores launched the same week on Shopify platform. - Heavy emphasis on building ICP and figuring out where ICP likes to look. - Learned how to quantify projected ROI of promotions - Practiced building, testing, and optimizing campaigns to maximize profits
