How has freelancing shaped your professional career?

It has shaped my career in numerous ways. Not only did I get the opportunity to work with health-tech startups but also nutritional, wellness and entertainment companies and apps, allowing me to master different skills. Freelancing gave me a glimpse at and "a day in a life" of different careers, as well as numerous networking opportunities that are helping me shape the decision of my future career. The experiences I gain through Pangea help me land present and prospective internships, while giving me different learning experiences to reflect on.

What has freelancing allowed you to do that you maybe wouldn't be able to do with a traditional job?

Being your own boss! Who doesn't want to be their own boss? Freelancing is being your own boss while getting guidance from the CEO and advisors of the company you work with. You get to play the role of both the provider and the advisor. It allowed me to jump from various departments. You also get to focus on doing what you like. You can work alone and work in teams. I got to go for meetings with the business management consulting team while working for the marketing team and collaborating with the product design team! It's an all-in-one experience, you feel like a part of the company and not just a freelancer focusing on one side project.

Why did you decide to sign up with Pangea.app?

I got an email about Pangea and I thought it would be a great learning experience and a good head start for me to start working and earning. Pangea also had a great vision in mind and caught my eye when they said we get the opportunity to work with the YC companies. As a freshman during COVID, Pangea was also my assurance that I would have some form of paid job or internship that would keep my creativity and mind running!  I decided to sign up for it because I knew that this would be a great opportunity for me to explore various fields/careers while further developing my skills and knowledge as an undecided business major(at that point).

What is a project you have worked that you were excited about?

I really enjoyed creating video advertisements and working with Charge running. Their app was made for people like me that would love to run but have friends and family living in the other part of the world hence having the terrible motivation to run alone. It was exciting to work with the team to create a video! Out of a team of 6-10 of us, only 2-3 were picked and for someone (at that point) with almost no video editing experience, I managed to learn basic video editing skills and was also picked at one of the 3 winning teams! I now make videos for fun and have a food blog (spoonful_stories)!

What is something you wish you knew before you started freelancing?

I wish I had the confidence in myself and ability to freelance sooner. I was restricted by thinking that I was not experienced enough - and that is what made Pangea stand out. There are job opportunities for all experience levels and I loved that! It taught me so much and gave me ample amount of experience in Consulting, Management, Design and Marketing. Freelancing also opened up another revenue stream for me.

What advice do you have for someone who is on the fence about freelancing?

Don't question it! just go for it, you have nothing to lose, you can either accomplish the task or not, and if not, you definitely learned something from the project that will be beneficial for the future and your next gig/internship. It's a self-paced, paid, learning experience that allows you to follow your passions and develop new ones! You don't get that package/bundle too often...

Do you want to share anything else?

Don't be afraid to go out there. Be yourself and be passionate for what you do! There is always something for someone, you just need to find it :)
